Nevelson Shabbat at the Colby College Museum of ArtFriday, March 15, 6-8 p.m.
Join the Center for Small Town Jewish Life and the Colby College Museum of Art on Friday, March 15 from 6-8 p.m. for a special Shabbat dinner and guided exploration of the art and life of Louise Nevelson, an artist with deep Maine roots.
Louise Nevelson, born Leah Berliawsky, moved as child from Ukraine to Rockland, Maine, where her family belonged to Adas Yoshuron Synagogue. Nevelson was a sculptor and printmaker mostly known for her monochromatic wooden pieces.
The evening will include an exploration of Nevelson’s place in Maine’s Jewish history and engage with her work as a point of departure for exploring big ideas and questions. This is a free program, but registration is required.
The World Outside: Louise Nevelson at Midcentury is on view at the Colby College Museum of Art from February 8 to June 9, 2024. The exhibition is organized by the Amon Carter Museum of American Art.
